Community Blogging: Building Hyper Niche Alliances
There has been a lot of chatter recently about 2010 being the year of hyper niche or hyper local. In terms of marketing and development, I believe there will be a far greater emphasis on web 2.0 applications geared towards local B2B and B2C. E-commerce will continue to evolve with respect to real-time search and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Google Local Business Center introduce the Twitter and Facebook APIs so that potential customers can visit a local storefront, engage with the owner or staff right from their office or home computer. This would be an excellent opportunity for a smaller company like Skype or Ustream to provide live video feeds.
Before I go any further, please feel free to join the conversation and share your thoughts with us.
With multinational corporations seizing a lot of business away from small companies during the first round of globalization we witnessed in the early 90’s, local businesses are having to adapt to an overwhelmingly competitive marketplace by forging stronger alliances closer to home. Even bloggers need a pose to be in if they plan on building their online reputation.
In a recent post on his blog titled “Think Niche“, James Piecowye says, ”We collectively think too much about the big picture and the latest and greatest technology FAILING to realize that we live, work and breath the small picture and that most of us are using old tech (over a year old) to do most everything!”
James really gave me a little bit of a reality check. I will be the first to advocate the latest and greatest technology, and will occasionally rely too heavily on it. Alliance building starts with personal relationships around your neighborhood using whatever technology you have and showing how you can help others.
Now if only I could syndicate my blog on Mashable, ReadWriteWeb, and Clickz. I could take over the world… or I can just keep dreaming.
